North Arabian Sea, 1989. Minutes before launch, an F-14A Tomcat from U.S. Navy Fighter Squadron Two (VF-2) taxis across the flight deck of USS Ranger (CV-61), precisely guided toward the catapult by a Yellow Shirt.

The photograph captures the organised chaos of a working carrier deck. Sailors surround the Tomcat, each performing a specific role while the aircraft moves between them. At the centre, the Yellow Shirt’s raised arms direct nearly 20 tonnes of fighter through a language of hand signals, understood instantly over the noise of engines, wind and machinery.

Against the dark clouds, sunlight briefly catches the Tomcat and its crew, leaving behind a photograph that feels almost like a Renaissance painting, dramatic light, deep shadow, and human figures gathered around the machine at its centre.

Available in both Digital Gallery Edition (PDF) and Premium Print Edition (sized 16x20"). Please allow approximately 5 business days for dispatch. European and US made.
